Your post is in two parts.. the first with the grand mother (sounds quite interesting how she came through this really turbulent epoch)...

The second part is more familiar: expectations, destiny, fate and one's aspirations.

It goes to say, it is hard for parents who wish happiness for their progeny to refrain from spelling it out too explicitly (artist shall not be a business person, a professor shall not be a new born christian, a doctor shall not be a rocker...). Freedom is owning your destiny, even if that destiny appears "wasted" to others.

The lost of our children
They are between Hell and Heaven
Time advances, but hearts darkened
Is love more precious after being lost?
Does life earn more dignity after being re-found?
How long does it take us to breathe without gasp?
How difficult is it to return to nature without going through the ups and downs?

You are lucky indeed to have such nice garbage men. Usually, when they're working for private contractors, they are paid according to the number of streets they can do. Hence they're very much in a hurry and will disregard anything that might slow them down (like untied garbage, dangerous materials... ).

Happy Birthday Lumberboy!...

There's nothing quite like the emotional investment we put in kids... seeing them grow up — and grow up well — is a feeling difficult to describe.

They inherit at once our flaws and our best hopes… in the end, seeing them off to a happy fulfilled life is the best reward.
